What is management studies

Business management requires leading and organising a team of sales employees such as assistants, supervisors and customer service.

Why did you decide to become a business manager?

From leaving college I began working at a Retail store (selling fashion clothes) as a full time sales assistant. I instantly began to show signs of leadership skills in the team I was in for sales. After two years of experience within the shop my own manager asked if I would like to take up training in management. I was able to take the training in the store I worked in but on completion I had to change to a different store within the same chain. The experience I gained within the two years was brilliant, I thoroughly enjoy managing the store I work in.

What does a business manager do on a day to day basis?

Managers have many roles and responsibility within a business. A retail manager for example would on a daily basis be responsible for leading and organising all staff that work for the company. This would be done by giving targets and different responsibilities to different members of staff. Managers also would be responsible for the company’s accounts, and keeping record of the company’s competition. The manager has to report to senior managers of progress of the company; of what is doing well and what needs to be improved.

What are the requirements in business management?

There are no specific qualifications that are needed to become a manager within a business. It is based on experience, knowledge and personal skills. Natural leadership skills in a team and competence are skills that are a must to become a manager. There are courses and management training that can be taken whilst in employment to eventually go on to become a manager.

What can I expect to earn in business management?

Starting salaries are from £18,000 - £25,000 a year

Experiences sales managers can earn around £25,000 - £50,000 a year
